Ozymandias Wines Jessica Lenard Tribute

On October 19th, 2019, Ozymandias Wines will host a tribute, at Laurel Lake Vineyards, honoring the life and artwork of Jessica Lenard. Her artwork will be on display and available for purchase through a silent auction. A few select pieces have been highlighted below and are available pre-auction through special Ozymandias Wines “BUY NOW” pricing. In an act of tremendous generosity, her family has agreed to donate 100% of the proceeds from these sales of Lenard’s artwork to help fund Ozymandias Wines Scholarships. We hope this helps find loving homes for Lenard’s uniquely playful artwork, while at the same time helps her legacy shine through and benefit other artists developing their craft.

Lenard worked as an artist and teacher for over 30 years. Her work was shown in 15 museum collections and extensively in the US and Europe. Lenard’s work is autobiographical and literary, at once intimate and universal.

Education:

Lenard liked to describer herself as, “Self Taught ignoring the trends and critics of the art world.”

Artist Statement

As an author recounts his life, the artist narrates an autobiographic journey of images both intimate and universal.

“Everything inspires and influences my vision; a film unravels, negatives unspool. I call upon memories to reinvent life into art. Perception becomes rearranged while always striving for honesty and truth.”

Subtle line, markings, and collage-like elements are presented with a fundamental respect for a primitive vision. This naivety becomes charged with vivid, painterly strokes that come together to form its poetic and playful vision.

“The German school of DADA is loosely translated into “crazy narrative.” Although I try to avoid both trend and critic, this strikes me as an apt way of describing my work.”

As Michael Brenson of the New York Times writes: “Ms. Lenard defines herself as both provincial outsider and hip insider, and it is this, as much as anything that gives her work its knowing smile.”
