Behind the Label:

Ozymandias Wines supports emerging artists from all over the world, especially in our home city of New York where we award a scholarship to a first year student at the New York Academy of Art. The 2020 recipient is Irina Lakshin, for her sculpture, “Warrior,” which is featured on the front label of this bottle. Lakshin’s “Warrior” is based off of a fictional character from a book she read, who possess ancient secret combat techniques. Lakshin says, “it was a fascinating novel that painted a story of duty to country, personal growth, military triumphs, and, of course, love.” The story and the warrior stayed with her, eventually manifesting in this work.

Ozymandias Wines supports emerging artists from all over the world, especially in our home city of New York where we award the Ozymandias Scholarship to a first year student at the New York Academy of Art. The 2018 recipient is Jay Miriam for her piece, “Mozzarella Spread,” which is featured on the front label of our 2018 bottles. Miriam’s paintings weave tales from dreams, imagined narratives, old lore and even the daily, often ordinary lives of mysterious women. A constant in many of her works is the visceral pleasure in food and drink. In “Mozzarella Spread” the subject stretches her limbs, imbibing on the plate of earthly delights, shielding her viewer form the deeper secrets lying on her tongue.

Pale gold in hue, this alluring white blend has aromas of Asian pear, dried pineapple, toasted hazelnuts, delicate white flowers and meyer lemon custard. Notes of citrus blossoms and lemon verbena, interweave with scents of stone fruit and melon. This wine is full-bodied and creamy, yet is balanced and well integrated with a verve of lively acidity.

This wine is a food pairing chameleon. It's well versed to pair with a myriad of lighter foods including ceviche, kale salad, roasted vegetables but also has enough structure and weight when paired with fried fish, vegetable terrine, risotto and an assortment of fresh cheeses. Drink now through 2020.

Behind the label:

Ozymandias Wines supports the work of artists from all around the world. Each year a panel of judges selects an artist based on the merit of their project and how they can creatively portray a rendering of it on an Ozymandias Wines label. The proceeds of the respective wine goes towards the winning artist's project, and they are offered mentoring by the Ozymandias Wines team.

This year we are thrilled to present, Briana Navarro, and her label “Burning River.” As an artist and environmental activist Briana intends to raise awareness for the necessity to transition to safe, responsible methods of energy production. Funding from her label will help her make large scale paintings expanding on this theme, and create a mini-documentary expanding on artistic activism.

"The nose is chock-full of dark fruits: blackberries; black cherries; black plum; blueberry skins. On the palate the wine becomes alive and more expressive, with rustic characteristics. Tobacco leaf, saddle back leather, black pepper, smoke dried herbs, peaty and slightly herbaceous. Drink now til 2025. Enjoy with a rib eye, smoked meats, aged cheddar, roasted game, braised lamb, and grilled vegetables."
